I'm so glad that Rachel Greene got her act together and decided to follow in her dad's footsteps. I absolutely LOVED this series!
When Carter boxed up the contents of Mark's locker, he traded out stethoscopes and took Mark's. I really wish they would have had Carter give it to Rachel.

i am still watching this in 2021 this will never get old sends chills up and down my spine you stand as doctors and you leave as doctors knowing you did everything you could possibly do to help your patient i loved this series and to see it end like this they did the show justice

I watched the very first episode with my parents, while my brothers slept... and watched the final episode with my wife, while my children slept.
Powerful. I did the same and real8sed the significance. Tears rolling down my face. It still sticks with me to this day. Probably the best and most significant ending to any drama series ever.

Awe, similar boat… started watching in high school and ended right after o had my first baby. It was a huge part of my life for so long. Will always love ER. ❤

That last scene showing that the ER was just a tiny portion of a huge hospital is stunning. So many lives, so many stories captured in that tiny smidget of space is breathtaking and profound at the same time. Years later ER is still one of the best TV dramas in history. So many of the actors and actresses went on to do great things. Worthy of binge watching over and over. Always something new to catch. It will remain timeless.
Only 3 really great modern tv dramas- ER, Hill Street, and the West Wing.

At the beginning doctor Greene was teaching Carter. Years and years and more years later the student had become the doctor, and the teacher was blessed to be in Gods presence. Doctor Carter then begins his role as a teacher and his student is the very daughter of his teacher. Dr. Greene teaches Dr. Carter and Dr. Carter goes on to teach the next Dr Rachel Greene. Funny how life keeps on rolling

In my mind I can see the ghost of Mark Greene running along side his daughter as she runs into the ER to begin her career. Tears in my eyes ...
How awesome would have been if they actually did something like that or if Rachel has a moment where she smiles at her Dad.

I love the ending, to show that it DIDN'T end, that life in the ER continued, and such a poignant moment for Carter to call Rachel Dr. Greene, having the echo of her father live on in her.

The very first trauma that was on ER was an incident like this so this was a great way to end it even including Rachel Greene like it was Mark Greene was justice

THE hospital/doctor show. The intensity and emotion this show STILL gives me in 2021 is crazy. Amazing show.

I think I love the fact that they used all the primary paramedics in this scene too! Zadro, Pickman, Dumar, and Olbes. Fantastic writing all the way around!

Archie’s asleep just like Mark Green was, she calls him several times.
I never missed one episode in 15 seasons. I was one sobbing mess at 11 o’clock that night.

I like to think when Rachel gets in the medical student program (you KNOW she does) John Carter comes to see her.
And he gives her Mark’s stethoscope, explaining to her how he took it.
It turns out he was keeping it for her. Dr. Greene begins her life at Cook County’s ER.

Rachel went to college and did her PreMed at DUKE where Elizabeth was...something in the medical school.
But County General has their own medical school program. At least for 3rd year, that’s when Carter came in the pilot episode.
Remember Dr.Banfield was interviewing prospective students to be selected for the program.
She told John Carter just because Rachel’s father worked there in the ER (RAN the ER) didn’t mean she would automatically get in.
But we all know she would. There would be a Dr. Greene in the ER again.
I don’t recall anything about Rachel in New York.
The last time we saw her was Mark’s funeral, she was a teenager.
I think Jennifer was in St. Louis when Rachel was a wild uncontrollable teenager and almost killed Ella with Ecstasy.
She ran away from her mom.
I guess she went back, because Mark took her to Hawaii because he knew the time was limited and he had a responsibility to her.
He and Elizabeth weren’t together then. But remember she came with Ella, and they were all together at the end..

I watched every single episode of the show, and watching this last episode, brought it all back. I wish they would have some kind of reunion show. It was one of the best on television.
@@robynstein8258 I had hopes for the 25 anniversary. They did the virtual reunion and it was great but it is not like a person to person reunion
To do it officially, they need michael chrictons widow to give permission to use the name.
This part literally brought tears to my eyes.
Omg...I'm crying right now. ER was one of the best shows ever on tv. I stopped watching it when all the original cast had pretty much left. I never saw the last season but this clip made me smile, cry & wish I had watched it. I love that they had Rachel Greene decide to intern there. When I saw Carter standing there with what looked like the same basketball I had this vision of him leaving for the day turning around to toss the ball to Rachel and saying "Greene...you set the tone." For those who don't recall those were the words Mark Greene said to Carter on what I believe was the end of a very tough first day for him. Had he done that I don't think my heart would have survived. 😢💔
Show has been gone for years now, but it is still the greatest drama of all time. I watch the reruns whenever I can. I think the reason the show was so great was much of it made you feel like you were right there. Laughing and crying, births, deaths. ER had it all. I know many people thought ER died with mark Greens death. I for one did not. There a reason ER lasted for 15 seasons, it was the very best in television. Actually they could had kept going with Rachel Green and her future as an ER doctor. Of course if you remember your history Micheal Crichton passed away shortly before the final was complete. I know there were a couple of producers of ER but Michael Crichton was ER.
That's exactly how I felt.It wasn't just a show, it made me feel I was right there and a part of it.
I think they could have started including dinosaurs in it..

I feel like a part of ER died with Mark only because he was such a pivotal character. But I really enjoyed the seasons that followed after he passed.

When the first ER came out in 1994....I had a VHS vcr...and yeah, I started recording the seasons.
By the end in 2009, I had a ReplayTV DVR, and I probably replayed this scene at least 50 times. Everytime ER is on, I have to watch for a little bit. Cool series and actors! Wicked cool writers/producers/directors!
Mark Greene was so present for me in that last scene that I could almost see him. Go get em, Rachel. All the feels.
Still to this day gives me goosebumps. Best hospital show ever. Motivated me to become a better healthcare worker.
I so loved this show. It's one of those that made you feel like family and that you were watching ever their shoulders every week!
And somewhere on the other side you know Mark green has a big old smile on his face knowing that his little girl is following in his footsteps.

This is still MY FAVORITE TV series. I was working in an ER when this show started. What an awesome series. A reunion movie is needed. In the beginning and in the end........Dr. Greene.......love it.
I love that they always did major transitions like this. When Greene died, his letter stayed on the bulletin board and eventually got taken down. Medicine never stops, and neither does the ER.
I really loved this ending.
The call back to the OG theme song gets me every time. Such a fitting way to end the series. I miss this show so much. When I talk with medical professionals like doctors and nurses and am able to understand and speak to them on somewhat of their level, they always ask me where I leaned what I know. I just say, "15 seasons of ER" and they laugh.
I must have watched this finale seven times. It never got old.
I loved how they showed everyone over the final season, especially Marks daughter.. was a great way to end a fantastic series... E.R made me love medical drama's.. but its still the best, ive rewatched the entire series multiple times.
I didn't stick with this show to the bitter end I'm sad to say. This was the first time I've seen how the series ended. I knew the girl with the curly hair looked familiar but I couldn't quite place her. But when Carter said "Dr. Greene, are you coming?" I realized that was Mark's daughter Rachel! I got goosebumps! I had no idea she followed in her father's footsteps! Perfect way to end....with a new beginning.
I loved that final episode of ER. I tuned back on for the last show when it went off the air. Kinda like full circle in away.

ER was my most favorite TV series in the 90s. I've invested a lot of emotions in every episode in those days and ended up always wanting for more at the end of every episode.This finale is just bitter sweet.Needless to say the theme song is just absolutely the bomb!I always have the ER Theme song on my playlists.

I remember seeing the promos for this show before it started. I couldn't wait to see it. Knew it was going to be different from other medical shows. Really miss it. Never been another show that comes even close to how good this one was.
This show is what inspired me to get into the medical field. True I didn’t become a nurse or doctor in ER but I loved helping people and am thankful I got to help people.
Me too! I works a phlebotomist in the lab. I want to be a med tech one day :) I've been a phlebotomist for 7 years and I'm trying to go 10 years before going back to school.

Brilliant swan song to series that's careful NOT to wrap everything in a tidy little bow. Carter has achieved his professional goal with the opening of his center but his personal life is still unresolved. Casting such a familiar and charismatic actor as Alexis Bledel as a NEW character and bringing back Rachel Green as a new Doctor - leaves audience with the feeling that life goes on in the ER. 12 years on WE ALL want to go back to County hospital.
Construction accident in the loop in 1994 in the pilot episode, industrial explosion in the final episode 2009.
This comes up on my "recommended" list every now and then, so I watch :) EVERY TIME it makes me get teary because it was just so well done. I stopped watching around season 10 but have gotten caught up a bit with reruns and DVDs (got my husband into ER too, I'm not allowed to watch the DVDs without him, lol). There are really no words for how great this show was...It's sad to think that there will be no more. Thank you Michael Crichton for this amazing show.
I totally miss this series! I just rented the first four seasons from the library, and man, it brings back memories. They had some GREAT actors on there, and I couldn't help but get totally into the show.

The first scene of the pilot was Mark in a room trying to get some sleep and the head nurse, I forget her name, coming back to get him up. The final episode had Archie there, the same nurse, doing the same thing. The pilot was Carter's first day as a med student. Rachel is going to be a med student, and you know she's going to wind up at County General. Her life came full circle. There was a Dr. Green when the show began, and there was going to be a Dr. Green again. It was a perfect ending!!

Everyone keeps talking about how the series started and ended with "Dr. Greene". What was cool is earlier in this same 2-hour episode they actually reproduced that first scene except with Dr. Morris; sleeping in a dark room. Camera shot of his feet, then getting woken up by a nurse......the SAME nurse. Lydia! One of many Easter eggs for the loyal fans that had been with the show since day one
( in an unrelated note I just re-watched the first episode again and was happy to notice that desk clerk Frank was actually in that first episode! He was still a cop and had been shot in the leg. It was mostly a funny scene where Carter was trying to learn how to administer an IV. I think it's cool that 6 years later they brought him back as a regular character)
this is the greatest ending to a show that has been on for so long. i still watch the reruns on TNT every weekday at 11(in the time zone im in). great show. will miss it alot
